Not every lymphedema requires the same operation.
Lymphovenous anastomosis for selected patients with functioning lymphatic collectors.
Vascularized lymph node transfer for more advanced disease or when usable lymphatic collectors are absent or severely compromised.
An essential component of treatment, used alone or as part of a broader strategy in selected patients.

Bilateral lymphedema is not necessarily symmetric.
Each limb may show a different degree of lymphatic dysfunction and is therefore staged and treated independently according to functional imaging and disease severity.
